Soo Ra Sang
So easy to miss due to its location, this fine Korean restaurant in Murgeshpalya (Bangalore) is one amazing food fest. Starting from the homely ambience to the lighting and seating, you just feel at ease and relaxed here. The proprietor, a Korean lady (surprise! surprise!), is a friendly but not patronizing person who definitely has your best interests at heart.
The seating (quasi Japanese tea ceremony like) arrangements are comfortable though it does require some dexterity to get in and out. We asked for a spicy beef dish and something not so spicy with pork. We were immediately recommended the beef stew and the pork bulgogi. Interest expressed in getting starters was quickly dismissed as there is no concept of a starter in that sense. We did get a Kerala parota like pancake which with the light soy sauce tasted delectable. Small petri dish plates then appeared in a flurry. These had potatoes, celery, sprouts, kimchi (accompanied by a pair of scissors), spinach and even some baked beans. Each of them tasted distinct and flavorful. The spices were varied and interesting but the one thing they all had in common was the incredible taste.
The 'main' course then arrived. I had asked for the beef stew to be extra spicy and they were not kidding with that one. Water poured out of my eyes in abundance as I dug into the most succulent meat and gravy. The pork bulgogi, while not as spicy, still had a significant kick. Both the pork and the beef dishes went very well with sticky rice.
Completely stuffed after this sensory attack, we relaxed with slightly warm cinnamon tea which washed down the spices nicely. All in all a great restaurant, a truly authentic Korean experience and a meal which was for once filling but not oily and fat. Two thumbs up for Soo Ra Sang! Highly recommended! 5 stars for food, ambience and service!! Go try it!
